what is it about the shoutbox divides?

i don't care for it....but only because it's a distraction...and it takes up real estate. if it was at the bottom of the board...i'd not care if it was there or not.

but divides? how so?

in order to attract the majority of users out there, Ja.com would have to be offering something the others don't...have a niche.

what happened to Marilyn via the unknown stalker probably convinced a few people that ja.com was not for them....that and the neverending viruses that seem to be coming from this site calls one to question the cost/benefit of hanging here.

definitely, if there were more active users...it would be more interesting to spend more time here...lately...

quality vs quantity. it is not so much the users but the topics that the users contribute.

You are quite right about that. Mostly dumb uneducated posters who knew just how to ingrate themselves with the dumb Moderators and Administrators who shared their narrow worldview.
I don't think the Board suffered because of Facebook, MySpace, etc, this board has a unique Jamaican Theme, there were many social sites before this Board, yet it was able to hold its membership to 10k for years. There were a few Jamaican Themed Sites before this Board and the very same thing happened featuring some of the same players.
Folks who cannot and will not allow a multiplicity of opinions.

Speaking of Hijacked Milo whatever happened to Half Way Tree the religious nut who found ever way to torture and harass others that did not share his opinion?
Just be careful when we start pointing fingers.

Lol ...well what can I say,I hate the shout box,it`s unnecessary,it`s as you say a distraction,takes up far too much space,and encourages sniping,....the divide comes because there are 2 sets of discussion being conducted on the board,...there are in effect 2 forums.

why yu neva juss seh dat an done? for every person on here that hates it there is one that loves it. get firefox and you can disable the shoutbox. the directions are in feedback. then perhaps your world will be a better place.

Funny I never noticed the SB as an intrusion. I have no problems with it.
I think if your monitor is set at a very high resolution there is space enough to accommodate it.
I think it is good to have many interactive tools on a BB.

I take issue with the number of fora, most were granted to folks who just wanted a title and found they could not control the other fora so they threw a tantrum, begged for their own and genie lamp delivered.

Truth is there was division on the board before the shoutbox.

If people are not taking their sniping comments to the box they would be taking them to another thread, or a pm...

I believe it is the <span style="font-style: italic">comments</span> that are the problem, not the forum in which they occur.

Makes me think of Obama's speech yesterday:
