I do not know where people get the sense that in JA all yuh hear is gun fyah an people cyan walk street again. I stayed in St Ctaherine and all midnight wi outa gate a chat an laff wid mi frens and neighbours. NO I did not hear one gun fyah. All the incidents I heard of on the news involved gang warfare.

I did not get a sense that people jus a walk a shoot people jus fi sport. Is time now wi give JA some credit for some good an stop tainting it like its the most violent place on earth. I feared no one and nothing going from palce to place. Christmas eve night until 2 am I was in a crowd of thousdands in Linstead and security forces were there but no incidents reported. Just people having a good time </div></div>

I thought it is town you spent your holidays.

btw my nieces and nephews were in that very crowd at Linstead for granmarket night. They live not too far from there. Wendy, I don't know if you knew Linstead when the street was bare as your hand miggle, now it is overcrowded. Suffice it to say, it has had it's share of violence, including the murder of Mr. Lee, the wholesaler who was murdered a year ago.


...and yes, Jamaica is NOT the worse place on the planet, but after hearing the horror stories coming from there, one cannot help but believe otherwise.

The roads all thru St Mary are too horrid – too many, impassable. Of course down closer to the tourist areas, they’re gleaming.

The most marked improvement I see are the upgrades at the airports.

((Yuri)) condolences my dear...Last year my dentist's assistant told me that her brother met the same fate, and when they attended the funeral, they had to have security...she was so afraid..

Another perspective...we still have a lot of shortcomings especially in the areas of electricity and water. I hear you about the faux promises when it comes on to obtaining DECENT power supply.

The people seem to be adjusting to it all, and not complaining as they should, so in areas like Road and Works there is a lot to be desired. If they can build that new highway, they can fix roads year round and not every four years when it comes to election.

I was impressed with the airports as well...both Mobay and NM in Kgn..one checkin clerk had a baaad attitude but on a whole, they are updated and nicer than before.

When I go home mi go all bout Bristisha ..Spent some time in Kingston but my mom lives in St Catherine so I stay there.

I spent my entire childhood in Linstead.. I spent all my holidays from school there because My granny lives there.. I honestly cannot remember living in fear there. Yes there was isolated killings but I never lived in fear.

There are killings in PG county where I live now.. I am wary of my surroundings but I am not afraid to go about. That's how I treat JA when I get there .. It's home and I relax and soak in di good air!Fear will paralize yuh to di bone.

Linstead used to be nice, and still nice...Most of my fambly in Ja are in Linstead now. I Like your attitude, cyaan bi too fraidy fraidy...Mebbie we all rubbed shoulders to pass each other right there in the square....welcome back.

girls and i went to a bike show/concert in Junction ST. Elizabeth last August and it was near 3 oclock before we reach home. No gunfire, not even fight. Mattafack, nuff kids were still up in the wee hours wid dem family attending the show (i was not happy about that, though).

i have friends who live in Kingston they seem to make out alright, with their families and thing.

as you say Wendy, i don't think there's a lot of randomness in the violence. my ex brother in law was shot and killed about two years ago, but the conclusion was that he was set up.

I was alarmed to see the number of black youths/boys begging in Ocho Rios...even ten fifteen years ago that was not seen; and sadly to say, many of them were mentally challenged. .


So while we look at the infrastructure changes and beautification, we cannot negate to watch how our people are progressing as a nation on a whole. </div></div>

high cost of living. In particular groceries, fruits.
Also the high cost of amusement on the north coast. Namely the Dolphin thingy, and the bobsled inna di jungle thingy..

A trip to the supermarket went like this:
- Stop at the JNBS next to the supermarket, notice the long line, so call mi sistren pon her cellie (who fortunately fi me is the branch manager). Guh inna har affice and exchange some funds.
- Walk outta di bank wid me X amount a $$$$$ calculating inna mi head that &quot;dis MUST last me till next week&quot; and &quot; can guh put a a couple rounds a di bar later&quot; plus all di fun stuff mi can engage inna wid dis large wad a cash.
- pickup a barely full cart a groceries. a few stuff whey wi miss like di suga buns and irish moss and balance
- Join the check out line
- Start wondering if mi heard correctly when the cashier tell the lady before wid two likkle mash &quot;....$6825.00 lady&quot;
- Mi and wifey a look pon each other and a look inna di woman cart if she got any Gold inna it.
- Start figit as di cashier a look pon mi fi next..
Mi mad fi tell har cash di next person, but half mi stuff dun deh pon di conveyer belt.

- Mi watch nervously as the cash register pass the $14000 mark..
- While dat a gwaan, mi a x out inna mi brain, all the stuff dem mi did a plan fi duh wid mi wad a cash.
