Oh Lord I just booked airline tickets for June from LAX to Mobay Mon and found out this morning they were not flying out of Lax after Feb. Called them and they were just so abrupt and not nice. Said they would rebook me with another airline and then came back and said they would refund my money but I would have to make other arrangements on my own.So glad I found this out so soon. Wonder when they will get around notifying everyone. Ended up with American going through Miami. Not thrilled with changing planes but what can you do lol...

The so-called Air Jamaica Brand is nothing but a deep sinkhole. Over the years they have given the most profitable properties away for likkle jill.
Air Jamaica had a chance to save itself long ago. It should have shed staff in the long years of a good world economy, held on to its routes and converted itself into Service Apparatus that would administer Jamaica's Airspace just like the Spectrum Management Company do for Jamaica's Airwave.

landing and take of rights, and he sold them to Virgin for
a paltry £5million..and reputedly, a house in Londons Kensington &amp; Chelsea.
One of the most expensive area's of real estate on the planet.

Isn't that the job of the Civil Aviation Authority (administering Jamaica's airspace), or am I misunderstanding your point?

I actually think that Air Jamaica is worth saving. Allowing it to crash and burn would not be a good idea; it can play a vital part of Brand Jamaica. Yes, it was poorly managed over the years, I'm not sure what to make of the 'privatization' in the 90s, it is sucking money. Still, it should remain with a mixture of public ownership and a partership arrangement with a major carrier. I don't see a merger with another airline or a full privatization anytime soon, unless some private management group like Cerberus, buy it up (they already took over Air Canada). It will have to streamline its operations, improve its service, make its fares competitive, and still find the best way to manage within a worsening domestic and global environment. It can remain a public entity and be efficient. Will it continue to suck cash for the foreseeable future? Sure, but keep it for better times ahead. Yeah, I'm optimistic.

I mean the routes; berth spaces, booking and properties that it owned or controlled.... wrong choice of Air Space.
