CAVE, Westmoreland - 'Twas a 'Bolt' party alright, replete with curried goat, jerked chicken, blaring reggae music and lots of excitement as land developer Stafford Earle officially handed over the $6.5 million ocean-view property in Westmoreland's Cave community that Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt plans to call his 'home away from home' some day.
When?
"In a couple years," laughed the lanky sprinter who rolled up to the panoramic landscape high in the hills off the Westmoreland coast at about 2:30 pm last Sunday in his shiny new BMW accompanied by quarter-miler Germaine Gonzales and a few other friends.
SIGN OF THE TIMES? Bolt's girlfriend Mizzican Evans and his mom Jennifer share a laugh during Sunday's festivities.
After greeting Earle, he dashed off for a view of the 1/3 -acre top end plot, one of the first in the magnificent Ocean Terrace Estates housing development which will feature luxury town homes and ocean view apartments.
Soon he was joined by parents, Wellesley and Jennifer Bolt, a busload of teammates from Kingston and several family members from his home parish, Trelawny, as well as a few from Westmoreland.
Bolt's girlfriend, Mizzican Evans and - sources said - his architect were also on hand for the happy occasion.
And happy it was. Friends and family conversed excitedly with the young star on how best to utilise the generous gift, while they enjoyed the banquet, prepared camp-style.
"I love the view, it's really wonderful," he said with a broad smile, noting that he also had family in that section of the island. A five-minute drive from the popular Bluefields Beach, the prime real estate is in close proximity to the fishing village of Whitehouse.
"I am looking forward to coming here, building a nice house and looking at the sunset. So people you will see me in a couple years," he promised.
THE PROMISED LAND. Bolt and friends view his new lot.
It didn't end there, however, as two buses, full of students on their way back to Hampton High and Munroe College in St Elizabeth got wind of the party and joined the celebration.
The excited students waited for close to two hours as the official handing-over, which was done under the watchful eye of Bolt's manager Norman Peart and his attorney Rudolph Muir, to meet the track hero who obligingly spent an hour posing and signing autographs for them.
