chile i nearly deaded as i listened to di tape of har saying wat she said....seems Ms James was heard mouthing off about Beyonce singing "MY song" up an alll ovah in DC....she also said someting about dat big aise man ...he aint my president....but mi tink she was more ticked off on B n har song an di prez juss got dragged in it....oh course Ms Etta could have been a likkle to di wind but as J said: "alcohol is di truth serum"....

If you were wondering why Beyoncé and not Etta James was asked to serenade the president and first lady with &quot;At Last&quot; during their first dance at an inauguration ball on Jan. 20, you're not alone.

Etta, 71, whom Beyoncé went blonde to portray in last year's &quot;Cadillac Records,&quot; is wondering the same thing, and she candidly expressed her displeasure during a concert stop in Seattle last week.

Granted, Etta's version of &quot;At Last&quot; has long been a standard, but Beyoncé has performed it many times over the last several months, and the chanteuses happily posed together at the &quot;Cadillac Records&quot; premiere in November.

In a post-inauguration chat with the New York Daily News, Etta's son insisted she was delighted by Beyoncé's performance.

&quot;She thought it was great,&quot; said Donto James, who explained that his mother wasn't feeling well enough to travel to Washington, D.C. &quot;She's gotten emotional, just like everybody else. ... She was honored.&quot;

Beyoncé's rep has yet to comment on the kerfuffle.

i didn't even know etta james was alive...

but i definitely was not feeling beyonce playing etta james in that movie...
didn't watch the inauguration singing either...
i've basically had all i can take of beyonce

Etta, should consider it an honor, and go and sit down somewhere. This can only mean more sales of her records, and more people wanting to find out more about her (due to the movie). If she continues to shoot her mouth off, she may just kill the remainder of her career.

This is coming from me, one of her biggest fans.

mi can ongle focus on di pawt whe u imply seh she a profit from it? why do u think that? i can vividly recall Sam of Sam n Dave going to the Atlantic Records building to 'visit' his royalties...i.e.dem ole artist get no royalties having been cheated from dem just deserts decades ago...memba seh Etta neva even owned har own house...is ongle cause di label owner did put it eena har name before him dead (an he should since him did a rooks har), why she DISCOVERED dat she had not lost har roof wen he died suddenly....

an Beyonce will be lucky if she still a sing an draw crowd and adulation at Etta's age...

But its not an Etta James original, yes she made it the most popular but other people could have told her back in the day why she singing THIER song...a just so it go, Beyonce is just the lastest person to sing it and she will probably not be the last.

The movie may draw interest back to her. Also, her in person appearances, at different venues, could draw more crowds as a result of renewed interest due to the positive exposure of her work. This transulates into profits for her.

Poor Beyonce, last year it was Aretha, this year (so far) Etta.

She better not mess with any of Patti LaBelle's songs...cause she might get har weave pulled out.

BTW, J-kid...yuh tink if people buy Etta's single dat she will get any residuals? Yuh done know how dem contracts were back in the day. And anyway, most people will download Beyonce's single into their ipod.

Etta's right, she doesn't do the song any justice.
