<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">The Teams</span></span>
We are remote teams.. mnager will be in Cali, team spread all over north america, australia, asia, europe.
Suh mi join this team last year... here in canada - chiefly pakistanis, one iranian , one italian one irish, and me the black man.
dun know how dat guh already. the akistanis dem is a clan. Pray together, lunch together. teach each other the art of looking busing without doing much.
Italian annd me and irain seemed to click. Italian show imense interest in everything Jamaican. always a badda me bout fi food and lunch. use to share mi lunch wid him. Invite him a mi yard fi some red peas soup as him woullda badda mi no endz.

Anyhow the irish dude was the team lead, him get promoted, and left a vaccumm.
Now mi not infi di leadership business again. Been there done that. Too much sacrafise pon di family. Mi just waan come work, duh mi thing, guh home and figet bout work.
But the manager inna cali had heard bout mi (hence why him egged to have mi transfered to his ailing team) and ould without confering wid me first, send what wi call managerial esclations to me. (things hit the fan, $$$$$$$$$$$$ bleeding, someone need to put dem neck pon di line fi fix it)
Den him start depend pon mi fi everything.
Him would msn mi fi ask him own team members to do things.
They would respond to me, but when he sent emails, nothing happens.

<span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">To Lead or NOT to Lead ..</span></span>
Anyhow MANY times mi call him and try tell him, mi think me doing too much, and mi DONT wanna be team lead.
Each time the conversation ends with me getting even more responsibilities than when mi started the conversation..

Anyhow, the iris dude that was the team lead got promoted and left a nice corner office space by the window.
Rathid, Italian dude start hype up fi di space.
Manager inna Cali say .. mi senior and its mine if mi want.
Now mi notice how the italian youth a gwaan over the space.. all a tell mi wi fi draw sticks
Mi was 90% sure mi was gonna just tell him he can have the space, but mi memba how mi been telling me kids to go for whats theirs. Dont be putting everyone else on the bus before you, stop being the one at the back. Its yours as much as anyone else. Mi would be doing mi kids a disservice fi step down JUST cause this italian dude seem to WAT this so much.
Suh with that inmind mi moved into the corner office by the window.

Ra-ss! Mr Italian start act up. Man bex wid mi, couldnt look mi in the eye.
Man start sow soso seeds. Call manager a cali and a complain how mi teck long lunch breaks and yada dyada.
Now a me hafi pull these things outta di manager. Cause mi sense him a act away, suh mi pulled it outta him.
Anyhow, mi tell him, mi DONT wanna be his team lead as mi is very loyal to mi manager and team, and mi hafi know that when meck a commitment dem have mi back.
But as how it seems mi hafi a watch mi owna back.
Mi explain that mi family time come first and its being compromised by all the commitments here.
Mi all did a support a technology that EVERYONE was scared of.
Then when oncall, its hell.
Cause the man dem in Asia.. yup the brilliant Chinesse den claim not to have the skills... Suh a dis likkle ediat Jamaican a get call at unholy hours fi joing con calls wid 40 odd people fi stop bleeding and save asses cause wverybady fraid a dis technology.. claim its too complex.. When in truth and fact its quite simple.
Boss all give out mi HOME number, meck people a call mi house inna some deadly hours. Wife had to trace dem off fi stop call the house.
It was like pulling teeth to get him to take mi house numer of the global contact list. (since them him bex)
Anyhow.
Italian start pon a mission.
Everyday mi guh a work a stress. Man nuh stop set bear traps fimi.

suh anyhow.. mi a run it red last year. mi decided, cho, its more money when mi work, suh gwaan pick the low hanging ripe fruits.
But Missa Italian its seems thing iya a threat. wha meck it worse, him a get marride this year (funny mi meba when him last girl left him, a me him come a bawl to, and a few days later a tell me how him meet this new girl)
Suh wid marriage inna di works, him even MORE ambitious.

Mi boss a try push mi fi team lead, (But nuh waan gimmie the role officially), mi a duh di work, but a try protect mi family at the same time. Cause if u allowdem, yuh turn a disposable android, wired to the technology via a blackberry.
Mi told him.. Mi left IT and drove TRAINS cause mi wanted NOTHING to do with corporate america. Too much back stabbing.
Mi told him mi took this job cause this was the ONLY compnay that mi would consider working with, and its close to home.
Plus my previous team was all numbers. No [censored] kissing.
Its all a number metrix.
You work x amount a cases, close x amount a case, customer happy and give u good survey, we all good (which brings me to another story.. mi had gotten glowing commedation from irs when mi had JUST joined the company. did some work for them on recovering some data fi a company they were investigating - the people had destroyed the data- now mi got this commendation withing 2 mths a working with them, suh this was unheard of.. mi boss at the time shared the email with the team.. meba one white woman email me saying &quot;you showing us up already eh?&quot;.. Then to make matter worse, the same quarter me joined mi won the impact award fi di entire north america, one paki came to me and a meck mi know man bex, cause man deh deh fi ages and cant win di award)
Anyhow mi tell di boss, this has become too political. Mi been there done that. Him ask mi if mi dont want to be a manager like him someday (dis young bwoy brite)
Mi explain to him, mi was IT manager fi a large corp inna Jamaica BEFORE mi was even 30, responsible fi 20 odd people wid dem degrees, and couple million $$$$$$ budget, suh mi nuh have dem aspirations deh again.
Now all the while mi conflicted still.
One mind a seh, why not just go for it, make the $$$$$$ and get outta the rat race early.. The other a sey, maan mi need fi meck mi pickney dem know who dem daddy is. Mi cant be taking away all teir time and giving it to work.
Den mi a seh, mi dont want this dude to think mi no have nuh ambition either.
Suh every meeting ended with him giving me more stuff fi take care of, and mi agreeing reluctantly.

Anyhow.. Things came to a hilt with the Italian dude. Man setmi up good pon a case, and start complain bout other stuff.
Mi manager him now, start critique everything mi duh.
No matter how happy the custmer are, and they tell me they gonna email and tell him.
It never gets to me.
He will email or call to complain and mi hafi defend, but never fi commend.
Now mi nuh need nuh commedation, but to me, when someone only critisises, that means only negatives matter to that person.
Suh mi decide fi evacuate the corner office.
Dem ask mi why mi move from di much coveted corner window office, mi tell dem &quot;it was too cold&quot;
Mi move to a likkle aisle cube beside the kitchen, and a tell u, mi been the happiest at work mi been in months.
Mi felt like a load lifeted off mi back.

as mi a write dis a nuff stuff come to memory.
sometime mi try tell miself seh mi a read into things and fi stop be negative, but some obvious stuff happen.

Like inna the holidays. Dem bring out a new time business.
Now the system puts 8 beside hours worked automatically for each day
But for chrismas and boxing it puts the 8 in a different column called holliday.
Suh wi approve it as usual think its all good.
Inna meeting folling week, manager a say he had to modify all who worked on chrismas and boxing day time card as we did not put the 8 into hours worked, and would not have been paid the double time for thiose days.
Now mussin 3 a wi worked that day
Mi all a tell him Thanks inna the meeting (fi modify it fimi)
Rathid, a present a mind tell mi fi check mine just to be sure.
Rathid the man never fixed mine.
He fixed the next 2 so they got paid for working on these days that they should be spending with their familes, but some how &quot;missed&quot; mines. The guy he depended on the most.
When I asked him... he goes &quot;how do you expect me to catch everyone's mistake??!&quot;
Now this is the dude that has been catching small mistakes in the past (as the system new) that would have OVERPAID me. But when its a known mistake that would have UNDERPAID me , he missed it.
I was like cool..
Got on the horn with payroll and sorted it out.
But that in effect was a big determining factor on me just pulling a withdrawal.

Been oncall this week.
Now calls after 12 midnight fo go to an inseat engineer in bangalore or china or australia.
suh we in north america know , if they dont call by say midnight, guh sleep.
EVERYMORNING close to 3AM mi get a call.
Suh yesterday, mi was burnt out. Mi decided to book sick.
Mi remote in and check.. The sh--it hit the fan, they bawling sehy dem flooded.
Dem had to pull in some dudes from India (whey me said one train a few months back) fi help out.
Wifey a sey mi shoulda book off today also, but mi ago guh in cause a friday and mi know dem ago get killed tonigh as a Saturday fi australia, suh no one ago be in on that side a di world fi help.
