A scaffold malfunction left two window washers dangling 69 stories high over New York City on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at One World Trade, the tallest building in the Western hemisphere at a staggering 1,776 feet.

The Fire Department of New York City said it responded to a call from the building shortly before 1pm and immediately raced to the scene.

The New York City Police Department and Emergency Services are also on the scene.

The two workers were trapped on the south side of the building, and both were tethered.

Emergency crews broke the windows on the 68th floor of the building to get the workers back in the building and safe.

Window washers have been seen on the building the past few days getting the building ready now that construction is complete.

One World Trade, which stands where the Twin Towers used to be located in Manhattan, has only recently opened, with new tenants including magazine giant Conde Nast just starting to move in this week.

The State of New York and Port Authority also have offices in the building.

My dad broke both legs when a scaffold was accidently (they said), disassembled.
Twenty-odd years later a similar scaffold incident took place. This time it was my eldest brother. Needless to say he broke both legs as well.
