Sangster International Airport — where a man was reportedly permitted entry into the island en route from Ebola-afflicted Liberia.
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists to expect minor delays when using the dual carriageway between Sangster International Airport and Iberostar Resort in St James as the works agency is currently carrying out work under the Elegant Corridor Lighting project.
The roadway along the 17 kilometre thoroughfare is insufficiently lit and as such, the government is now undertaking a multi-million dollar effort to improve visibility along the corridor, thereby improving the safety and the ease with which persons use the corridor.
The project involves the installation of energy saving, Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lamps along the roadway between the airport roundabout and the Iberostar Resort in Lilliput, which is referred to as the Elegant Corridor.
These lights are expected to reduce energy costs by approximately 50 per cent.
Community Relations Officer for the NWA's Western Region Janel Ricketts said local contractor Y P Seaton and Associates, is now actively engaged in works along the corridor, having commenced in the vicinity of the Sea Castles Hotel, moving in a westerly direction towards Sangster International Airport.
Currently, emphasis is being placed on cutting the length of the roadway to facilitate the laying of ducts, and cables, following which poles will be installed and the affected sections of the roadway rehabilitated.
Ricketts said the project is being undertaken at a cost of $248 million through the Tourism Enhancement Fund. The project is expected to be completed before the end of the first quarter of 2015.
Motorists are being advised to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
