So, an anchor on MSNBC was talking to the head of the NAACP and towards the end of the conversation, he used the word "colored." He came back to apologise (for what I'm not quite sure, other than that Al Sharpton may call for MSNBC to fire him). This time he used the term "people of color." He did look and sound a bit scared.
I was a little amused since the "C" in NAACP actually stands for "colored." The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has not changed/ammended its name, even though the term "colored" has long been banished and "african-american" is the preferred term. Apparently the NAACP hasn't changed with the times. It's not hard to see where the MSNBC anchor would have gotten the term. It was right there dangling before him, and did I mention that he was talking to the head of the NAACP.
I have a modest proposal: how about the organization call itself the NAAPC - the "PC" would stand for "People of Color" (not political correctness).
The relevance of the organization is a separate issue.
