When I said I never really cared for him as person I hope it was not taken to mean I'm glad he has aids. As much as I think he is a jerk I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Maybe she is referring to the Dave Winfield incident where he (Dave Winfield) accidentally killed a seagull with a baseball while throwing practice between innings during a game. That was at Toronto's old Exhibition Stadium if memory serves. After the game the police considered charging him with cruelty to animals.

Unhealty? OH PUH-LEEZE!!! What could be more unhealthy than having unprotected sex when you have an infection, possibly AIDS?

Don't put words in my mouth. I said "serve im right". Meaning he had it coming based on his behaviour. If im did keep imself quiet and stop rooksin around im wouldn't ave fe worry bout aids or scorned woman suing him. I never said I was HAPPY about him having AIDS and being sued. What do guys who carry on like this expect? There are consequences for actions? It is quite telling that NO ONE has a word to say about this guy with AIDS pressuring a woman into having UNPROTECTED sex with him but you're jumping on me for calling him out for his irresponsible behaviour.

There is a sense of concern, sympathy and disbelief surrounding a lawsuit that alleges beloved ex-Blue Jay Roberto Alomar has AIDS.

Alomar is alleged in the $15 million (U.S.) lawsuit to have insisted on having unprotected sex, while claiming repeatedly that he was disease free, with ex-girlfriend Ilya Dall, 31.

She makes the charges in a suit that was first reported yesterday in the New York media.

"This is a very private, personal matter and I greatly appreciate all the support I have received in the past few days from my family, friends and colleagues in baseball," the former all-star second baseman said in a statement late yesterday, first reported by ESPN.com. "I am in very good health and I ask that you respect my privacy during this time."

Among Dall's more explosive allegations is that Alomar told her he'd been raped by two men while playing baseball in the southwestern U.S. when he was 17 years old. </div></div>

But on Wednesday, the debate around Alomar may have been irrevocably altered. Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News revealed that a US$15-million negligence lawsuit had been brought against the former Blue Jay in the New York courts. The suit alleges that Alomar has full-blown AIDs, and that he insisted on having unprotected sex with his former girlfriend.

The suit was filed by Ilya Dall, a 31-year-old mother of two. Dall claims in court documents that she and Alomar started a relationship in 2002, and that within a month the baseball player, then with the Mets, convinced her to have unprotected sex with him, offering her assurances he was disease free.

Dall alleges she noticed cold sores in Alomar's mouth in 2004, and that in 2005 a physical exam by a Tampa Bay Rays doctor revealed Alomar was suffering from a blood disorder sometimes associated with the HIV virus. Dall claims the Tampa doctor told Alomar to get tested for AIDs afterwards, but the ballplayer refused, claiming he had already been tested and was negative.

In 2005, the suit alleges, Alomar informed Dall he had been raped by two Mexican men when he was 17-years-old.

Dall contend that Alomar was finally tested in January 2006. She alleges he received an HIV-positive diagnosis on Feb. 6, 2006, and was later told by a doctor that he was suffering from AIDs. Dall has tested negative for the disease. The couple reportedly ended their relationship last October.

Alomar's lawyer, Charles Bach, responded to the claims in the Daily News, telling the newspaper that "these allegations are baseless," and adding his client was "healthy and would like to keep his health status private. We'll do our talking in court."
