US plane crashes into home, burst into flames

NEW YORK (AFP) — Several people were killed, including one on the ground, when a commercial plane carrying 48 people crashed into a house outside Buffalo, New York and burst into flames, officials said.
An Erie County official said Continental Airlines flight 3407 crashed at 10:20 pm (0320 GMT) in the town of Clarence, New York, about five minutes before it was due to land at the Buffalo aiport.
Officials declined to confirm reports that all 48 people on the plane were killed, saying only it was "undetermined" if there were any survivors.
US media showed footage of the still-burning wreckage in the center of a residential neighborhood.

why don't eugines or airlines use something like that to protect their engines ..
shape it into a cone ..
place in front of/over engine intake ..
no birds get sucked in ..
OR
what about parachutes for airlines ..
almost everyuthing else man made coming down from the sky uses one ..

In that wind yesterday, I would be taking off from nowhere...although 1010 said the wind gust was 30mph, and the pilot said he "was taking on ice"...I would postpone any trip after yesterday's frightening wind conditions.Comment
