Been a while since on the Board. I`m doing a survey. Can you help me out Please?

Regarding food items, what food products readily come to mind that are in demand in your location that originate from Jamaica?

Tambarind balls, calaloo...you name it.

I don't know if Jamaican foods are in demand, based on were I live, but in Brooklyn and Bronx I see people buying a lot of Jamaican produced products*...especially

(a) Walker's Wood jerk sauce

(b)Grace Callaloo

(c)Grace drinks like carrot juice

(d)Red Stripe Beer etc etc

(e)Hot sauce

(f) Browning Sauce


**I say Jamaican produced because I see some products with Jamaican label, with the fine prints **made in odda countries** eg Coconut watah made in Thailand.

Is the calaloo canned? I hear that if it gets up their quickly calaloo can be sent raw green and freshly cut.

Appleton I think sells a frozen bammy but as to how many people buy it I couldnt'say. I always see it in the freezer at the J'can store.

Yes, Grace is canned; but I see &quot;fresh&quot; cut callaloo on ice, but I think they might come from other islands as well as Ja.

Is it true that fresh sea fish from the tropics like red snapper, parrot and butter fish are preferred more than what is available like salmon and marlin and lake water varieties?

No clue, but where I am they seem to like salmon, tilapia, catfish from the menu...when I go China town which is supposed to be a major fish supply area, snapper moves very fast even at $7,00 a pound...don't see butter fish and parrot, mebbie they call them something else.

Canadians like their native salmon very much, and all the other seafish and lakefish, like halibut and perch and walleye. They also like imported red snapper, etc, but salmon is more traditional and &quot;Canadian&quot; and part of the culture.
I believe that Jamaica's salt cod comes from the east coast of Canada.

I've been searching for naseberries and can't find any near where I live. I went to a chinese market and found something tasting similiar but not quite the same.

I never run out of jerk seasoning. Jerk tofu
My yankee friends can't get enough of it.
