This reminded me of when I used to visit my grandparents during christmas time, and when everybody would congregate there, with my brothers and my cousins, most of whom were close to me age wise, my grandmother would call us aside one by one, discreetly, and give us each a glass of wine. The thought of giving children alcohol: my mother, especially, would have gone crazy if she knew, but my grandmother was like that, and quite frankly, I lived for it. The other day I was talking to my grandmother and we had a good laugh about it.
I don't drink wine, or any alcohol for that matter, but I 'eat' it every year in christmas cake. I grew up in a strict religious household where alcohol use was forbidden. Now, I'm not religious, but by choice I stay away from the stuff. I had both some red stripe when I must have been about 15, and maybe some heinekin, and thought it was the worst things I ever tasted. Funny thing is: drinking a glass of wine as a child was fun; but as I grew older, it made my head 'spin.' I suppose I can't handle liquor.
