New regulations are coming for the granting of personal loans to the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica (BoJ).
This follows recent press reports that loans amounting to $50 million were disbursed by the BoJ to Governor Derrick Latibeaudiere.
Responding to questions in Parliament Tuesday Finance Minister Audley Shaw said all future credit applications by the BoJ Governor will have to be submitted to his Ministry for approval.
The Board of the Bank of Jamaica will also be involved in the approval process.
The changes were recommended in a report from the Auditor-General.
Mr. Shaw revealed that the BoJ Governor applied for a staff loan to build a house instead of having the Bank provide him with accommodation.
The BoJ provided the Governor with loans to assist with the completion of a new residence that was under construction.
The loans are reportedly secured by a mortgage on the Governor's former residence and lump sum payments due to Mr. Latibeaudiere on his retirement.
