oww to detect media bias
Media have tremendous power in shaping political and cultural narratives—telling us what and who matters, why things are as they are and what it would mean to change them. An informed and critical audience challenges news media to be fair, independent and accurate. Here are some questions to ask yourself about news you consume, whether...

was it fair of the PBA chief to lay blame at the mayor? No. The mayor explained his honest feelings about the Eric Garner case and imho did not offend anyone of colour when he said he had to talk with his son about how to deal if stopped by police because it is a reality.
The PBA feels that they should not be held accountable when they used extreme force and when not receiving blanket support by other authorities chooses to create an even wider division between law enforcement and the people.
Brinsley was a mentally ill man who was going to take out someone, at any given time.If you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

Obviously what happened to the two officers was very disturbing and heartwrenching.
With that said, all this talk of the Mayor not backing the police and the police being somehow above scrutiny is ridiculous.
It kind of reminds me George W Bush's logic of "if you are not with us then you are with the terrorist".
What happened to the two officers was wrong BUT SO WAS WHAT HAPPENED TO ERIC GARNER FOR GOD'S SAKE! The only difference is that at least the families of the two officers have some closure knowing that the killer is dead. Eric Garner's family has to live with the knowledge that the killers of their loved one is walking the streets.
To address your point Blu. I agree. Different standars in media coverage.Last edited by My Looh; 12-22-2014, 11:37 PM.

Of course. When a cop kills a black man the first thing the media spins is to find all dirt & make him (or his parents in Tamir Rice's case) into degenerate thugs. The cop is never painted as someone with issues. If you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

The family of young men killed by cops, barely get an apology, no indictments and their child's killers walking scott free because somehow they deserved itIf you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.
