Okay, here's the flip side to that argument. If it's cheaper to keep them in prison than to execute them, then we would be using the money to build more facilities, yes? Considering that there has been a long-standing argument that we do not have enough facilities to house criminals, then we'd <span style="font-style: italic">have to</span> build more...

And if that is indeed the case, what segment of the population would 'benefit' from these new facilities? The more you examine the argument, the more u realize that it's a no-win situation. We stop executing people on death row because it's too expensive. Conversely we'll imprison them for life because it's much cheaper, yet we don't have the facilities to house everyone thus we need to build more.

Because I'm too lazy to google this, does anyone know what percentage of blacks vs. others are currently on death row in the U.S,?

Those are disturbing numbers ... apparently, according to many, the system shows no bias with regard to death row inmates... Death Penalty Information Center

even so, we'd still need to respond to the question of sufficient 'accomodations', no?

in 2007 there were 16,000 murders in the US ..in the same year there were 117 Death sentences handed down and there were 43 executions.
