The "Tom Joyner Morning Show’s" Christmas Wish program has donated $2,500 to help a South Carolina boy who is battling an aggressive form of cancer.
Ten-year-old Jamacia “Macie” Harley was diagnosed three years ago with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer commonly found in children. At the time of his diagnosis in 2006, Macie had two tumors in his leg and underwent surgery to have his femur removed – the first South Carolina resident to have the surgery and the 12th nationwide – and a special device was implanted in his leg to help him avoid amputation.
It seemed Macie was on the road to recovery until his mother recently received news that the cancer had spread to Macie’s lungs. Angie Beckett-Harley and her son left home Tuesday for a hospital in Texas, where Macie is to undergo advanced chemotherapy.
The family’s church, Good Hope Baptist, in Estill, South Carolina, has scheduled a fundraiser on March 15, which has been declared Macie Day, to help with the costs of the boy’s long-term medical treatment.
The church asked the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" to grant its Christmas Wish and join with the church in honoring Macie Day. Joyner announced on Wednesday’s show that the foundation would make a donation to the fund and encouraged others to help.
Checks or money orders should be made out to Macie Cancer Fund/Angie Beckett-Harley, Account #69398863, and mailed to Palmetto State Bank, 601 1st St. W, Hampton, S.C., 29924.
