MANDEVILLE, Manchester — The acting principal of the Christiana High School at the centre of a sex scandal has resigned.
The educator, whose name is being withheld, tendered his resignation to the school board shortly before a scheduled 10:00 am meeting to discuss his fate. He was appointed acting principal in September last year. He previously served as vice-principal
"The signature (on resignation letter) is authentic," board chairman Calvin Lyn told the
Jamaica Observer.
The scandal was triggered by photographs circulating on social media, allegedly showing the acting principal engaging in homosexual acts with a younger man.
The photos, it was reported earlier, were posted on the Internet after the acting principal lost his smartphone. Nationwide Radio reported that he acknowledged that he was in the photos but insisted that they were tampered with to add the homosexual element.
According to the report, the acting principal said he would be reporting the matter to the Cyber Crime Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, which would not only determine if photos were doctored but could find out who posted them online, which is in itself a criminal offence.
It was, however, not clear yesterday if the educator -- who is married and father of three children -- had reported it to the police.
