My mother-in-law swears that the Jamaican word <span style="font-weight: bold">gyanzi</span> aka undershirt/wife-beater was derived from the word <span style="font-weight: bold">guernsey</span>.

She was a teacher in Jamaica and said that any Jamaican would know that.

She might be right which is not good.

I was told the same thing by a teacher while in grade school in Ja.

Guernsey, she said, was from a certain type of clothing (or was it cloths ) that was made on the island of the same name.

Due to the island of Guernsey being extremely cold in winter, the cows used to wear marina.
