I guess it depends on the relationship. As much as I believe in tradition this is one thing I have something against. It is in fact a form of social insurance but with grave consequences. Some daughters even go into prostitution just to send something back home (and it is not always thankfully received). I believe that by the time you have children you should be in the situation to help that generation instead of just having them just to help you as in farming days. I guess it is a back-ward form of help, the younger help the older instead of the other way around.

And the poor house thing is the next one

someone i know did do them father soh too....dem seh the father never do nutten for them when them was younger....them did try to send money (when them had it) for the uncle that did function as a father figure for them though.

My cousins did the same thing to their father (my uncle) but the difference was that <span style="font-style: italic">he</span> was always so proud of them when they were younger. He was always bragging about how good they were at this and that. He would always make sure they had whatever he could afford.

Which is why it was such a shock to hear that he was living way below standard, while his children lived the States and worked enough to be able to help him if they wanted to.

For the most part, they just ignored him.

money is not everything is one. Did he send them to the states? Sounds as if they were ambitious, in their eyes he probably didn't do enough. I can see with that.

Den a so much trade him have,bicycle mechanic,welder,blacksmith,....an him still couldn afford fe fix up de house,..bwoy him salt bad.
