I can see what ohliz is saying - a man being a good provider is not the same as being a good father to his children or a good husband to his wife.

having the funds to put food on the table doesnt guarantee that he is a loving, caring or kind man. Having a man like that creates its own set of stress that most smart women would rather avoid.... IMHO

There are so many misconceptions in this thread by a few people. I will just simply everything by listing a few facts.

1: MOST Jamaica men DO marry Jamaican women.
2: MOST 'black' men DO marry 'black' women
3: MOST race DO marry within their own race
4: MOST race DO prefer their own kind


There are exceptions in a minority including those that are sellouts and perceived sellouts from various races. I personally know of Chinese, Indian, Filipino and white women who told me they prefer black men to their own kind and said they are simply not attracted to men of their own race. However I have not met any of the same mentioned races who's men expressed that they share a similar attraction to women outside their own race. Maybe women however know of such men that does.

How would you guys explain that? Make of it what you will.

Tuff Gong - what can we say. You know that kind of conversation just isnt going to get much lift off around here.

The first boy who wanted to put a ring on it was a white boy from a very wealthy family. I would have had a nice cozy life in Europe - where he was from . I woulndt have had to work a day in my life but I also would have had to quit university......I said no out of instinct. My sixth sense kicked in. I would need to leav behind where I live, my culture, my family and rely on another 19 year old to help me navigate another world.

This seems like a fairy tale life but I had enough intuition to know that I wouldnt be happy in the end. I was just as surprised as he was when no came out of my mouth. Though I may not be married now, I am glad I said no to that rich white guy

Good summary. Some non-Black Jamaican men have married Black Jamaican women. Some of the affluent shunners, do it for a number of reasons:

- move in different circles
- cultural background insists on marrying their own
- some are threatened with disinheritance
- some are just plain racist

Ohliz, it goes without saying that the ability to be a good provider is only ONE pre-requisite for a good partner. We established that pages upon pages ago and I have posted on THAT numerous time. No point in being with a rich guy who is a jerk.

Tuff Gong..I agree but Black women have the right to have the same range of options as Black men do and find truly compatible partners. We don't. I remind you that marriage rates in Jamaica are not what they should be and 70% of Black women in America are unmarried. 50% of Black men in the UK marry women who are not Black.
