for some, she's not worthy enough for rich men to marry - because she is black. yet rich and poor man will sex her, in spite of her being black. why?

she's said to be materialistic and vain, concerned only with how a man's dollars can help her. yet she's also the sociological fact as single mother head of household. is she truly an independent woman?

what is the black woman's beauty? her looks, her spirit?

She is a black woman. So whatever you say should apply to her as well. If it is true what you say then Beyonce significance is hers to define. She cannot refer to women because we are talking about black women.

I was happy for the opportunity for Gen to explain to me one of those classic sentences.

Whenever there are any discussions about black women on here you get some of them

'oh it is low self esteem' and the likes. But Gen run gone.

you know, i was reading a long article about child malnutrition in India, and how such a thing persists even though that country has developed a powerful economy. the rate of child malnutrition is higher in India than in Africa. one of the key reasons they said is because in Africa, women have more power in the household, and therefore, over the fate of their children, than women in India. African women do the shopping for their families, generally speaking, they go out and about so have a greater degree of independence, and all this on a broader social scale has significantly more impact on preventing child malnutrition than in India.

i'm trying to reconcile this picture of the black woman with all the different pictures of her i see on this board - essentially, as a victim, undesired, vilified by her own black man as greedy and selfish and, apparently, scorned by men of other races. we are seen as exotic and lustful, and again as fierce and commanding.

i mean,who are we, really? normally, i'd say that we are like any other group of people - varied in our behaviour and philosophies, but it look as if at some basic level we are lumped together and discussed and treated as if we are one.

lord, i'm struggling with this. mek a go think some more see if i can get more coherent.

If I used the opinions of what I have seen on this board to define myself as a black woman, I would have been compelled to put a bullet in my head a long time ago.
