We were just at ringette practice and our friend on the team, an emergency
nurse at the Foothills, told us that the police were in the emergency ward
yesterday, warning them that a gang leader was in town this weekend for an
initiation and to be prepared.

Apparently, the initiation will be a random killing of 3 women at a Walmart
store.

I know that this sounds like a farce, but our buddy wouldn't have any reason
to spread silly rumours, and I would rather spread the word and be wrong,
than do nothing at all about it.

We don't need to shop at Walmart this weekend

Many Calgarians have written in to Global News about an email they’ve received regarding a gang initiation shooting. The latest version of the email claims three women will be shot this weekend outside of a Calgary department store.

Today, Calgary Police responded to this email with the following:

“The Calgary Police Service has received a number of calls over the past few days relating to an e-mail that is circulating throughout the city, in regard to an alleged gang initiation involving the killing of individuals at a local Wal-Mart store.

The Calgary Police Service has learned this e-mail originated in the United States in 2005. It allegedly began as a rumour regarding a gang initiation whereby several people were to be killed at or outside a mega-store shopping site. The rumour has morphed over the years with the targets, types of injury and locations changing frequently.

In mid-March of this year, this e-mail resurfaced in the southern U.S. To date, U.S. police agencies have not reported a single incident in North America, and have determined that this information is invalid.

The e-mail has now surfaced in the Calgary area with a local focus on Calgary’s gang activity. The Calgary Police Service Organized Crime Section has not received any information to validate this threat and potential occurrence dates have passed without incident.

Additionally, the Calgary Police Service is unable to identify any historical support for this rumour in Canada or the U.S., and our Service has not received any intelligence that would validate this information.”
