I actually remember this event... and like many of EM&EMs social points i agree with...still think i if i gave him a chicken coop to run and expect it to be successful operation! (to misapropriate Orlando Patterson!).

I think that this speech and the diuscussion subsequent to it was one that hit a vibe with me.

I would add that i believe that he met Bev either at a modeling event or at a beauty competion....

I must say that he misses the point that beauty in Fauna is a reproductive advantage and leads to the propogation of ones Genes... And as women found him physically appealing he never understood that us ugly people are always at a disadvantage!!!!!!

I think YOU miss the point, the standards of beauty that governs the judges choices in beauty contest are learned and are the standards of Europeans. In that sense it is artificial and not correct to use those standards to judge a Non-European. If and when you do that as a Government the Governs Mostly Non-European people you do these people a disservice by making then feel lesser than - ugly or undesirable
That is the point Manley was trying to make.

I think he would have been appalled by bleachers. I think Seaga is too.. But then my understanding they use to have adverts for skin bleaching agents on TV during his tenure...

u cannot say during his tenure as if he was responsible for said ads….bizniz practices r just that …of the biznizes that abound…seeing that our commercial sector has always been run by the Syrians, Chinese n Jewish Jamaicans, it is not surprising that whiteners were on the market…n let us not forget the East Indians who now run so many shops n we done know seh dem big pon di whitening cremes too…even the Japanese have their pearl whitening cremes made from grinding real pearls

Not blaming him... i never had a TV so cant comment, ... knowing the man i think he would have been appalled by it as much as i am... I beleive Seaga as well...
