The parish of St. Elizabeth is reported to have the lowest literacy levels in the country based on the findings of the 1999 Literacy Survey.
In light of this, government senator Hyacinth Bennett, who is Chairperson of the Jamaican Foundation for Lifelong Learning (JFLL,) will be leading a tour of Adult Education Centres in the parish today.
A release from the JFLL, says the tour is designed as a fact-finding mission while members will use the opportunity to continue discussions with residents of the parish.
St. Elizabeth’s low performance comes as a surprise to many when the country on the whole is believed to have advanced from 79.9 per cent to about 83 percent.
