That's the thing. The usual "beef" thing used to stay within certain hot spots and even then, I used to warn that it was going to spill over into the larger community. Now we're hearing about guys telling other guys they cannot come to their turf. As a result, a 16 year old was shot dead near the airport then the next day another youth was shot uptown seemingly in retaliation which then led to a shooting death out in the country. The brothers of the dead youth came home for his funeral but to also take revenge so they shot up some place which led to a police chase and the gunfight at a crowded spot. This was then followed by those other two youths tying to kill each other. Oh, and part of the beef carried over to St. Croix where a young garbage man was shot dead who had some connection with the beef n St. Thomas.
The same night, a drive by near my area of the island resulted in a death of another youth and over this past weekend, another drive by claimed another life and at the same spot the day before, some other dude was shot on a basketball court.
Tonight on Investigation Discovery (ID), they are going to talk about a sailor who was gunned down on St. Thomas. Weekend before last <span style="font-style: italic">America's Most Wanted</span> did their show from St. Thomas featuring 2 murders from there and just recently the FEDS were brought in to do a raid on a neighborhood where they found a fully loaded AK-47 in a GUN CASE just 50 feet away from where the 16 yer old was shot dead. All the bad press and public outcry is putting pressure on the government and police so I am watching to see where this goes.
I am actually rallying Virgin Islanders abroad to also raise a big stink and to fill up the editorials and local stations back home with complaints.
Rumor has it that the recent spate of violence has spiked because the northeastern Caribbean has now been infected with this Bloods and Crypts shiligit. Seems so because on Hi5.com, I was shocked to see all these young boys from St. Kitts-Nevis and Antigua, with roots in the Virgin Islands, posing in pictures with red or blue handkerchiefs wrapped around their faces posing with gang signs. I don't think it is coincidental that those islands have also seen a huge spike in brazen gun violence a well as other nonsense. One recent story from St. Kitts is about a 37 old man who raped a 7 year old girl child and then ejaculated in her mouth. SICKENING!
