Members of the Police High Command are probing the theft of millions of dollars worth of cash and priceless jewellery from the home of well-known businessman Prakash Vaswani. RJR News understands that two prominent downtown Kingston businessmen are among several suspects picked up in connection with the heist which occurred last month.
It is reported that earlier last month, Mr. Vaswani called in the St. Andrew Central Police after a vault with millions of dollars worth of cash, diamonds, pearls and other family jewellery were stolen from his Milsborough, Upper St. Andrew residence.
The cops did not find any sign of forced entry and <span style="font-weight: bold">subsequently arrested and charged Mr. Vaswani's helper</span>,
who is to appear in court shortly.The cops made a major breakthrough in the probe last week when they reportedly recovered some of the stolen jewellery.
<span style="font-weight: bold">This led to the weekend arrests of the two businessmen who operate several stores </span>in the busy commercial district in downtown Kingston.
The businessmen, who deal in jewellery, purchased some of the precious loot.
The two were released from police custody Tuesday morning after reportedly cooperating with the cops.
<span style="font-weight: bold">It is not known whether any charges will be brought against them.</span>
Two other suspects are now in custody being questioned.
Mr. Vaswani is a former Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Authority and sat on several powerful boards during the People's National Party administration.
