The capture of a crocodile near the Hydel Group of Schools in St. Catherine Thursday morning resulted in a huge traffic gridlock on Nelson Mandela Highway, which links St. Andrew and St. Catherine.
The approximately 7 feet long creature was captured by residents in a river which runs along the road.
Personnel from the National Environmental and Planning Agency (NEPA) were on the scene trying to secure the reptile.
Four persons had to sit on the powerful reptile so that it could be restrained using duct tape to secure its mouth and rope and tarpaulin to restrain its hands and feet.
The NEPA team was delayed in their efforts to take away the reptile as hundreds of people some on foot, and others in cars, gathered to look at the huge animal.
This resulted in a huge traffic pile up which the police had to clear.
There was also a standoff between residents and NEPA officials after the residents tried to solicit money for capturing the reptile.
