Kingston <span style="font-weight: bold">businessman</span> Stephen Causewell who is accused of the death of his ex-girlfriend at the Oaklands Apartment complex in St. Andrew last year, <span style="font-weight: bold">had his bail extended </span>when he appeared in the Home Circuit Court today.

Prosecutors say they are still awaiting the DNA report before setting a trial date.

As a result Mr. Causewell is to return on June 12.

Mr. Causewell was charged by detectives from the St. Andrew North Police Division following an investigation into Miss Mitchell's death in July last year.

An autopsy revealed that she died from blows she received to the head.

Mr. Causewell has denied being involved in the killing.

Deputy DPP urges lay magistrates to follow law

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Jeremy Taylor is urging members of the Kingston Lay Magistrates Association to abide by critical instructions with regard to legal duties they are called upon to exercise.

Speaking at the Lay Magistrates national monthly board meeting at the Peace Centre on Camp Road, Saturday, Taylor <span style="font-weight: bold">said while there was no constitutional right to bail, there was a fundamental right to personal liberty.</span>

He argued that every person who is charged with an offence shall be entitled to be granted bail by a court, Justice of the Peace (JP) or a police officer as the case may be.

&quot;Now you, as a judiciary officer, any consideration of bail given must start with the presumption that liberty is a normative position,&quot; Taylor said.

He said any derogation from such fundamental right must be justified with very cogent reason.

Written records

He urged JPs to always seek written records from police officers when they oppose a person's bail due to previous charges.

&quot;<span style="font-weight: bold">Say, for example, the police tell you that the person was a previous absconder. Let them bring you the evidence, don't take only mouth talk,&quot;</span> he added.

Taylor also advised JPs to be careful when authorising a surety on a bail application. He warned the JPs that, if they are not factually sure that the person can monitor the defendant and ensure the person's return to court, they should not confirm that person's request.

Taylor further said that the punishment for knowingly making a statement that is false in any material particular is punishable by a fine of $3 million or two years' imprisonment, or both.

Recently Canada has been suspending bail for those accused of gun crimes, so that the onus is now on the accused to prove that he isn't a menace to society.

Former Managing Director of International Assets Services Limited, Patrick DeCarish, <span style="font-weight: bold">who is accused of stealing more than $100 million </span>from the company was released on bail Tuesday.

Mr. DeCarish <span style="font-weight: bold">was offered $5 million bail </span>when he appeared before the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court.

Mr. DeCarish was charged by the Organised Crime Division, following investigation into allegations that he ripped off the company during his tenure as Managing Director.

The cops alleged that between 2003 and 2007, Mr. DeCarish defrauded International Assets Services of more than $140 million.

The fraud was uncovered last year by the company which called in the police.

Mr. DeCarish was first charged in June last year after he was allegedly found in possession of a false Jamaican passport.

The police say Mr. DeCarish who <span style="font-weight: bold">was deported from the United States in 2001,</span> used false documents to obtain the passport.

He is to stand trial on September 7.

RAYMOND Campbell, the St James cop who was charged with the murder of his wife last year, was on Friday denied bail in the Home Circuit Court.

Campbell's co-accused, Greg Cameron, was granted $1-million bail.

Campbell, a police constable in Montego Bay, and co-accused Greg Cameron, are jointly charged with murder and conspiracy to murder stemming from the August 2008 shooting death of Kerry-Ann Brown-Campbell.

As part of his bail condition set by Justice Martin Gayle, Cameron will have to report daily to the Mount Salem Police Station between 6:00 am and 8:00 am. Cameron was also slapped with a curfew order, which requires him to be at home between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 am.

The men's case is again set for mention on May 22.
The prosecution is alleging that Campbell murdered his wife before burning and dumbing the body after a night out at the theatre - a month after the two got married.

The incident is alleged to have taken place in a car being driven Cameron. It is further alleged that Cameron helped with the disposal of Brown-Campbell's body.

Campbell, after the incident, reported his wife missing.

Attorney Peter Champagnie, in applying for bail on behalf of Campbell, said that his client was being &quot;harassed&quot; by the St James Police because he failed to take part in the illegal activities of some of his colleagues.

Campbell is also facing a charge of illegal possession of firearm and shooting with intent, stemming from allegation that in January he was engaged in a shoot-out with some of his colleagues. He was held on the day of the incident, allegedly with his service firearm and an illegal gun.

That trial is scheduled to continue in May.

It wasn't a confrontation, from what I recollect of the story I think he was in the mountain View area.
He said a &quot;Syrian&quot; looking man approached him and said &quot;don't you remember me&quot; Trinity said no,
the man then said he was George Flash and they proceeded to have a conversation.

my recollection of the story was that dem sey she did go fi shoot him and dem struggle ovah di gun(if i recall it was her gun) and she end up getting shot in the stomach
