He was born in Denmark to an Italian father and an African American mother who used to perform with Josephine Baker in Europe. His name is 100% Italian. He spent his early life in Italy and Germany. When the family moved to the USA when he was 6, he spoke fluent Italian and German bu hardly spoke any English.
When he found out he was going to a half Black/half Italian high school, he was really excited....until he got there. The Black kids felt he wasn't Black enough. The Italian kids kept telling him he wasn't Italian although he was FLUENT in Italian and, as he delighted in reminded them, at least HE had lived in Italy.
Yet, he grew up, did well in his career and even HE identifies himself as BLACK and AFRICAN AMERICAN.
I had the pleasure of hearing him speak a few days ago. He was really gracious and stayed for a long time afterwards and chatted with anyone in attendance who wanted to speak with him.
Lots of class and most gracious of him.
So these people who CLEARLY look Black and yet try fi claim seh dem noh Black....a wha' do them?
BTW, the first person who guesses who I am talking about wins.
