<span style="font-weight: bold">SYNOPSIS:</span>
A Bronx Dream is an inspiring look into the lives of 32 children from a school in one of the poorest districts of the Bronx, their discovery of Irish dancing, the Irish language and their journey to and passion for a country they have only seen in their imagination.
This documentary explores the binding together of a disparate and socially deprived community in a violent and impoverished district of the Bronx. It explores an often dangerous and uninspiring environment and charts their fierce passion for Irish dancing and the relentless efforts of their inspirational teacher.
Right from the start the children were intrigued by Caroline's strange accent and where she came from and they questioned her constantly about her country and culture. With the support of the principal she began an Irish dancing programme after school twice a week. The Keltic Dreams troupe was born. They have struggled against the odds from their inception. They have begged for funding, created costumes from t-shirts, received donations of dance shoes and along the way left those they have danced for awe inspired.
For the children, the troupe has introduced them to much more than dancing. It has captured the imagination of their parents, developed their confidence, introduced them to teamwork and most importantly encouraged their self-belief. In May 2007, the 32 children made their first trip outside of the United States to visit Ireland and perform on The Late Late Show and for President Mary McAleese.
Forms: Documentary, Feature
Genres: Family, Educational, Coming of Age
Niches: African, African American, Black, Hispanic, Latino, Student, Youth/Teen, Children
