Fidel Castro says Obama was mistaken
Wednesday, 22 April 2009
Former Cuban leader, Fidel Castro, says President Barack Obama misinterpreted his brother's comments about a possible thaw in US-Cuban relations.
Earlier this month, President Raul Castro said Cuban leaders would be willing to discuss everything with the Americans, including human rights and freedom of the press.
President Obama responded by saying Washington sought a new beginning with Havana, but later added that it should release some political prisoners.
Correspondents say this appears to have enraged Fidel Castro, who made his intervention in the form of a short essay on a Cuban government website.
