Several lucky locals waiting for the bus downtown yesterday morning were struck by the generosity of a mystery woman who handed them $100 bills before leaving in a limousine.
"I was stunned," said Kim, one of the recipients, who declined to provide her last name. "It was very unusual."
Kim said she was waiting at a bus stop at 102 Avenue and 100 Street in front of City Centre Mall about 8 a.m. when a black limo with tinted windows pulled to the curb.
A man in a suit and tie emerged first followed by the woman, described as dark-haired, middle-aged and casually dressed in a cardigan.
The woman approached Kim as though to shake her hand - and placed a folded $100 bill into her palm. When asked what the money was for, the woman simply replied: "Happy spring."
Two other women and students at the bus stop were also given money and seemed excited about their unexpected gift, Kim said.
"Maybe she's being a Good Samaritan. Maybe she wants to pay it forward," Kim said, adding she's appreciative of the money and plans to use it to buy groceries for her family.
Jim Johnson was waiting at a bus stop near Jasper Avenue and 107 Street just before noon when he also saw the woman jump out of her limo and hand out money to several people.
He didn't get any money, but watched the scene unfold and was surprised by the random act.
"Those people seemed shocked. I would be too," he said.
She might have been famous though Johnson said he didn't recognize her. And the man she was with appeared to be her bodyguard, he added.
Johnson said he had no idea why the woman was handing out cash, adding with a laugh: "I want to know where she's going next."
