Swine flu in UK

Went from 1 case to 8 cases in a week. (1 Case = infected individual(s) and ALL who they came in contact with).

<span style="font-weight: bold">Goverment approach to the threat:</span>
1: Don't visit your doctor if you have flu even if returning from mexico.
2: Ring help line who will only help you if you actually display swine flu symptoms.
3: Children who return from mexico are free to attend school and mix with class mates.
4: Passengers returning from mexico to the uk receive no screen checks for swine flu.

In other words it appears the uk government has NO plans or intention to prevent swine flu outbreak/spreading. They are into treatement after the damage is done rather than preventative measures.

How large is the UK's stockpile of antivirals?
The government has 23 million treatments of Tamiflu and 10.5 million treatments of Relenza. Hardly not a plan.. Jamaica can treat 450.....

Here is NHS website... what it says makes sense.....and is what was called prevantative medicine... Tommorow I stock up on food as suggested....

today BERR had us going through the loops to get our emergency response together....and they sent out enjquires to all major organisation how they are to keep functioning.. The orgainsation I consult for has sent out its instructions to every one in the country...

to date only 7 people confirmed died in Mexico...

Don't know what the stockpile for the uk is. However the info on the nhs site re how to reduce the spread of swine flu is common sense and patronising really. Growing up in Jamaica many people from the ghetto youths to the snobby carried rags/towels in their back pockets or handkerchief, even tissue to sneeze and cough in as a general typical form of attire.

We were grown up to always cover your mouth when you yawn, sneeze or cough. I read somewhere that lime juice will suffice and washing fruits and vegetables with vinegar/water - Dr Dudd I think.

So what other precautions do you expect???? what more can you suggest ?? most preventative medicine is common sense...

Like I said yesterday I spent dealing with developing plans for the BERR. And a large number of other private industry had to do the same'' .

In that case we then.
Why don't someone like yourself leak this info to the press? The people need to know. Wonder if that is why government don't want people going to their doctor (GP) for preventative measures because they don't have enough treatments and the effectiveness is in doubt. Saving the 35m treatments for those who actually have been infected with the swine flu...

So my suspicions in any case seem to be right...

This is known and reported in the press.. I beleive it is mentioned in the times yesterday and or today I alsoi herard it mentioned on the news as I sat in teh air port at Gatwick today... . no treatment is 100% effective the fact that it is not 100 % effective does not mean that it does not have worth...ask Doc on this he is much better qualified than me on this...

The guy that was infected in Forfar and his family were treated with tamiflu today.. if you look in the Times and the Independent today there are pictures of a large warehouse with the claim it is filled with the vaccine.. The treatment has a relatively short shelf life... and I asked for some when I went to china during the bird flu epidemic....

The 35 million would be distruted strategically.... No the logic they dont want people to go to their doctors is that they are contageous and would infect those in the doctors office.. the last thing you would want is to infect heath professionals if it is commuicative... also if ther are other sick and elderly people then they would be contaminated...people with weaken immune systems are more likelu to be more badly infected...

I appreciate what you said - I admit I don't read the papers at all. Thanks for that. I do know about the Tamiflu stockpile - implemented during/after bird flu.

In terms of people turning up at their GP, I meant those fit and well but worried and want to prevent themselves getting it. I was not referring to infected patients with swine flu to turn up to their GP for treatment.

From what I`ve read and heard so far this is not the case,apparently the virus is not very partial,and has claimed many victims between the ages of 20-45 yrs old.

It is not as bad as origianlly prognosed.. Some interesting stuff that is worth mentioning.. in egypt they they slaughter all of the coptics pigs, despite no cases in pigs in that countyr.. they placed every one in a hotle in Hong kong has placed every one in quarantine because one person who was in mexico got sick,,, in Singaporte any one from mexico was placed in quaratine.. in China tey banded travel ot mexico...

the US has only a quater of its population in terms of anti viral treatment.. UK has 50 %.. the French have 52 %... it seems that the virus may have mutated ot a less virulent form.. maybe teh necxt time it will be teh kill off... but what is how others react to it... I have hearnd nothign about India.... that will be an interesting...

Seriously though,I`m alarmed at the UK`s response,people coming in from mexico are free to wander through british airports unchecked without any kind of monitoring.

I`m always amazed at the UK`s lax attitude to people coming into britain,recently my daughter went to new york with her school,on the way back 2 pupils lost their passports,but decided to bluff it through customs,...they simply walked through with the rest of the group,no questions asked.
