I agree with some of your anylasis,however to add to that,I also think that some jamaican parents arm their children with the kind of parental advice that suits THEIR particular social conditions.
It is a kind of protectionism based on the type of social interactions that those particular children are likely to face on a daily basis.
Their form of thinking is as you say not designed for the greater good of the society,simply a way of survival based on who they are likely to interact with daily.
Having said that, it is a natural reaction though to the kind of society that they live in,people`s survival instinct takes over,and the greater good is overshadowed by personal survival.
