I agree with some of your anylasis,however to add to that,I also think that some jamaican parents arm their children with the kind of parental advice that suits THEIR particular social conditions.
It is a kind of protectionism based on the type of social interactions that those particular children are likely to face on a daily basis.
Their form of thinking is as you say not designed for the greater good of the society,simply a way of survival based on who they are likely to interact with daily.
Having said that, it is a natural reaction though to the kind of society that they live in,people`s survival instinct takes over,and the greater good is overshadowed by personal survival.

I would observe though that, parents who send their child to school in Jamaica have less waking hours with their kids than the world at large has, therefore it is their best interests to act on society rather than be a prisoner to society.

Compare Jamaica <span style="font-style: italic">(and we can compare because the Headline assumes a comparison of some sort has already been made)</span>, to countries such as Barbados, Cuba, Singapore and the Scandinavian Countries where the world outside of the narrow confines of the bunker at home is safe, progressive and nurturing, is it any wonder that in the main all the indicators are pointing upwards for these places, where as in our cases it is 100% opposite?

It is a condotioned reaction,to the sutuation.
A I stated in a post about the Jamaican kid that killed his mother,The Jamaican parenting strategy was geared to prepare the child to survive the difficulty thg epeople were faced with. It is not suited for today's condoitions, but it takes a few generations to adopt

No we have hope, the ingredient is breaking the link between the gangs and politics, or at least reducing the intertwining to normal levels.

IMHO just another fake reality programme and we are too weak to give advice. We need to work on our own value system outside of the Family Bunker.

See right there is the real Jamaica forget all that fun in the sun crap (Well that deh deh tuh, but that's not the point)!

Sharon reminds me of my grandmother, no matter how strict she was and how many time she rip mi (dutti clothes) from the line and mek mi handwash it again I was still in love with her at the end of the day.

If only all the world could give their child that experience.

Personally I am happy that now my children can get clothes washed by a washing machine.. all those repitious chores only served to irriate as opposed to educate.. I wish I had spent more time reading than sweeping.. more time in school than digging dutty....

They eschew the use of new methods and paint it as a way to make a person become lazy and less productive.

BTW I am watching the vids now and I have approached them with an open mind even those the cringe factor is sky high.
