Friday, May 01, 2009</span>

Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Pearnel Charles, today (Thursday April 30) announced that effective Monday May 11, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) will be increased by ten per cent.

The increase will move the NMW from the current $3,700 to $4,070.00 per forty (40) hour week.

Effective Monday June 1, industrial security guards will also see a 10 per cent increase in their wages for a forty-hour work week. Their wages will move from $5, 500 to $6, 050.

Why would you not trust the Government figures?
Wouldn't the Government be interested in knowing the average salary since they set a minimum wage?

You could also have contacted the Employers Federation which is a group of private businesspersons.... oh wait you are going to say I don't trust Slave owning ******* Jamaican business owners.

When our guests leave & we have a helper come in to clean, we pay her $1,500 for an 8 hr. day. This is the going "day" rate around here.

Some returnees that i`ve met are happy to pay day workers in ja peanuts,because it`s the going rate,personally I would be happy to pay someone £30 a day,which is currently about $4000...it would be still a lot less than I would expect to pay someone for a day`s work in the UK.

I know someone who just hired a day worker and she is paying her $4000 for monday - friday and time and a half on saturday.
