PASTOR BEATEN - Did not give blessing to congregation
The pastor of a recently established church was beaten and chased from his community after his prayers of prosperity which he sold to members of his congregation failed.
Reports reaching THE WEEKEND STAR indicate that several persons in an area at Cuffie Ridge district, St Ann, known as Pint Hill, claimed that the pastor promised that he could pray for blessings to assist persons during these harsh economic conditions.
Approximately two weeks ago after the promise was not forthcoming, a group of about seven angry men and women reportedly beat the pastor before chasing him from the community.
Although no formal police report was made, Corporal Clive Selvin of the Area Two Division said that concerned residents alerted the police while the episode was unfolding.
"We heard of the incident, as a matter of fact, we responded to calls that a big fight was in the community but everything was normal when we got there. We managed to find out the details afterwards, but no official report was filed," Corporal Selvin said.
THE WEEKEND STAR was told that a number of persons were paying various sums of money to the pastor as far back as last November.
Despite paying at least $500 each, persons complained to the pastor that things and times were only getting harder but they were told they had to wait their turn.
Fed up of waiting, the persons took matters into their own hands and mobbed the pastor who has not been seen since the incident.
The police also told THE WEEKEND STAR that investigations are being done into his whereabouts as criminal charges could be laid against him.
"We are in dialogue with the persons who are said to have paid money to this man. We are urging them to come forward and give statements. When they do this and when we get a hold of him, he could be charged," Corporal Selvin said.
Efforts to source a contact number for the pastor were unsuccessful.
