Dancehall legend Beenie Man recently spoke out against performers with law enforcement backgrounds and explained how they put themselves in danger when performing in Jamaica.

Speaking about Rick Ross' past history within law enforcement, Beenie talked with DJ Whoo Kid about the chances of being a police affiliated emcee in his home country.

"No, Jamaica don't do police," Beenie explained. "You can be a cop if you want [but not an artist.] If you're a police artist, I don't know if that's going to work out. You're a cop and an artist? That don't work out in Jamaica. You got cop artists, but they do that talent show sh*t. They don't come out on the street because n*ggas in Jamaica, once they find out you're a cop and you're on-stage, that means you're vulnerable. And you know what I mean, there gonna be battles, stones, oranges, apples, all that sh*t. When I say orange and apple, you understand it's an M-16, AK-47, if you want me to get serious. Because then you're vulnerable. You're a cop on stage. No police in the business. If you gonna be in the business, you gotta re-sign the business because police is in the killing business. The innocent killing business. And then the innocence is in the crowd and they're gonna try to kill you back because that's how it goes, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth."

So wouldn't you pay for protection if your life were threatened?
I am pretty sure some cops will be upset and other will still be around him. I really don't think he was speaking from his perspective personally I think he meant how the Police is viewed generally based upon their own actions.
It would be truthfully be very difficult for cops to be Entertainers and Police at the same time.

Now let me call Beenie Man a liar (he may not be but he possibly did not remember because he was young in the business at the time) there were a number of cops who would DJ in the Dancehall, Beenie Man knew them as well because they followed the same Sounds that he did and we all lived pretty close to each other.

There were two famous/ infamous ones. One cop was from the feared Operations Unit and another was from Mobile Reserve, another unit that was legendary for its brutality.

On the list of character traits shared by rap artists, few entries are higher than an obsession with proving street cred and a penchant for conspicuous consumption. The Miami rapper Rick Ross seemed to be going by the playbook when XXL magazine dedicated most of its May cover to his face and what appeared to be a pair of Louis Vuitton Millionaire sunglasses. His picture sat above the pull quote, “I’ve never had a credibility problem and still don’t.” Lawyers for Louis Vuitton Malletier disagreed this week, at least with regard to Ross’ taste in accessories. On Monday, the magazine’s Web site published a letter from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton attorney Michael Pantalony, who said the sunglasses Ross wore in the photo were counterfeit, denied any affiliation with the rapper or XXL and added, “Louis Vuitton did not grant permission to Mr. Ross or to whoever did make the sunglasses to use our trademarks.” Ross’ publicist did not return a call requesting comment, but Los Angeles-based sunglass customizer Jacob Bernstein on Tuesday said he had added 14-karat gold accents to real Vuitton frames at the rapper’s request. Bernstein compared his trade to adding after-market parts to a Rolls-Royce. A representative for LVMH said the company would not comment beyond the letter.

This is not the first time the now-discontinued Millionaires have graced the cover of the magazine. Jay-Z appeared on the December 2007 issue in an authentic, or at least off-the-rack, pair. His frames, which retailed for $1,120, lacked a gold LV logo on the bridge. It’s also not the first time Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, has had his bona fides checked. The ill-placed quote on the May cover referred to the revelation last year that the rapper — who once boasted in rhyme that Manuel Noriega owed him “a hundred favors” — worked as a Florida corrections officer in the Nineties.
