Two bid for airline

Two offers have been made for Air Jamaica, a government minister has said.

Minister in the ministry of finance Don Wehby said he could not disclose any further specifics, citing ongoing negotiations for the sale of the cash-strapped national carrier.

The government recently extended its deadline for privatising Air Jamaica to 30 June.

In recent months, the airline has slashed dozens of jobs and eliminated routes aimed at making the ailing carrier profitable.

Police in Britain have arrested eight people suspected of sending drugs money to Jamaica in an international money laundering network.

Scotland Yard said 100 officers carried out the operation which followed a lengthy investigation which also involved forces in Jamaica and Miami.

Detectives began their probe after discovering a criminal network sending regular sums of cash from south London to associates in Jamaica via various money bureaux.

It is believed the cash was generated from drug dealing.

a nuh WU dem had to use,

dem musse use other facility to transfer the cash, and or deposit it directly into the other accounts,

now a days dem have nuff a dem, even online, like ZOOM.com u can transfer funds from one account to another~

The authorities in the UK monitor all transactions by money tranfers and banks over a certain figure, even moreso post 9/11.

that was a much used method until the US started asking that SS#s be provided fi any transaction ovah couple hundreds....

Some of them are not that bright! maybe they thought that sending money to the US instead of Jamaica would blindside the authorities.

Jamaica National require ID if you want to send £500 or more, you know they don't have a UK banking licence from?
Makes you wonder if they've been denied one from the FSA?

I think that the person whio penned that report think people are not that bright to se that it is not possible to do all that. They ahve tio wash the money to come to Jamaica and then wash it again to go Miami....utter nonsense. they are simply creatinh the usual bad press for Jamaicans.
