thank u vannie. grace is a kind of archetypal jamaican woman - i can think of one woman in my family who (i think i've said before) never cared what people thought about her and used to cuss outta road and deliberately using badword to christians. i imagine nanny of the maroons, who legend says used to catch bullets with her buttocks or nani, depending on whofa story u read, is also an ancestral archetype for grace.

as a teen i remember seeing her on tv in the states being interviewed, and not knowing really who she was, then she pop out with some patwa to seh that she come from jamaica. i can't tell u how great i felt, all like how a never long since mi migrate.

i love her music and i love the influence she exerted. i like that among my white coworkers a couple of them know her music (one of them is gay, the other not), know that she's jamaican and rate her highly.
