And you know,despite the racial makeup of the Uk most shows of that nature do tend to look more like the old BE,...but then again,what most people fail to understand is that this IS a new blighty,the dynamics have changed enormously.

LONDON (Reuters) - Talent show contestant Susan Boyle's giddying rise from unemployed Scottish church volunteer to global superstar has come at a price, in what is being seen as a cautionary tale for the celebrity age.

On the way up, the 48-year-old's performance last month of &quot;I Dreamed a Dream&quot; on television series &quot;Britain's Got Talent&quot; was downloaded nearly 200 million times on the Internet, and within days Boyle was headline news around the world.

Camera crews camped outside the home where she lived alone with her cat; Larry King and Oprah Winfrey invited her on to their U.S. shows and tabloid newspapers tracked her every move.

But as the pressure built ahead of Saturday's final, which Boyle had been runaway favorite to win, she was reduced to tears, threw a tantrum and threatened to pull out of the show.

On Sunday, after her shock defeat by dance troupe Diversity, the singer was admitted to a clinic in London that treats people with mental health problems, suffering from exhaustion. The Sun tabloid reported she had an &quot;emotional breakdown.&quot;

&quot;Being famous is not all it's cracked up to be, and the idea that you can have a personal life and a media life is often pretty conflicting,&quot; said David Moxon, a health psychologist who specializes in stress.

&quot;It must be difficult to walk down the street and be mobbed by people.

&quot;I don't think Boyle did that (deliberately pursued celebrity). She was pursuing a love of singing that she had and that is the sad part of this story. But it is a cautionary tale for people and it shows fame has its price.&quot;

Moxon and others said people's reaction to pressure was impossible to predict. The fact that Boyle was starved of oxygen at birth leading to learning difficulties, according to show judge Piers Morgan, may have affected her ability to cope.

<span style="font-weight: bold">BACKLASH</span>

Experts question whether shows like &quot;Britain's Got Talent&quot; and &quot;American Idol&quot; are unnecessarily cruel.

Judge Simon Cowell in particular is renowned for his acerbic put-downs of less accomplished acts, some of which are watched by tens of millions of people.

One of Boyle's co-finalists, Hollie Steel, burst into tears during her faltering semi-final performance and begged to be allowed to try again. Aged 10, she was deemed by many to be too young to appear on the show.

And a potential American Idol contestant, ridiculed by Cowell after her audition, apparently committed suicide in November outside the home of fellow judge Paula Abdul.

Morgan, who backed Boyle throughout Britain's Got Talent, put some of the blame for her travails on the media and public. The former tabloid newspaper editor felt people turned against the singer having built her into a household name.

Although she failed to win Britain's Got Talent, and in spite of questions over her ability to cope with pressure, experts predict a bright future for the singer.

&quot;I predict she will have a huge selling album out in a few months, and more to follow,&quot; Morgan said, amid reports that Cowell's record label is about to sign Boyle.

British bookmakers are already taking bets on Boyle recording a No. 1 UK and U.S. chart hit and appearing in a West End musical before the year is out.

Gee…Bob Dylan, John Lennon, James Brown, Marvin Gaye...doesn’t suddenly ring a bell!

I think Hollie Steel is going to have a very good career to. She had a story of trials to overcome as well but luckily she is getting her big time start early in life and will have handlers to help her cope.

No one built her up,she entered a talent show and sang reasonably well,the problem was that she sang too reasonable for someone with an ugly mug like her,that was what the fuss was about,she didnt fit the mold,the only people that can be accused of building anyone up and knocking them down are the press,little people like me and you have our opinions,but no power to build anyone up or knock them down.

However,we do live in a celebrity culture,here in the UK everyone wants to be a celebrity,to be famous for doing very little,for having no discernible talent,reality shows has made &quot;stars&quot; out of otherwise semi-illiterate half wits,they have their 15 minutes of fame and then they are knocked back down to earth,and sometimes they doesnt need any help from anyone getting back down to earth.

Pretty soon she will learn that beaten to second place especially when the winning act is a Dance Group is not the worst thing that can happen to a singer. Just as Clay Aiken and Jennifer Huston about losing one of those.

Admitted to Priory means she has truly arrived and when she gets out she has at least two albums in her. She will not be competing against a Dance Group when it come time to promote and sells music. Even if she fails totally at Public Performances she will sell at least 2 albums.

As for Diversity they have their career ahead of them but I personally have never bought a Janet Jackson CD because she and her ensemble can dance.

They say she was admitted to the priory suffering from exhaustion caused by the build up,and that she hadnt slept for days,but there are also a lot of recriminations going around about who was responsible for her demise,and whether it was right for the BGT execs to allow such a fragile person to compete after her 4 letter outburst at people a couple days before the final.

In my opinion I think they will barely squeeze an album out of her before she cracks up completely,I dont think she has the emotional and mental strength to cope with being more than 6 yards from her own front door.

It was not a caged death match and variety shows are as old as the British Empire.
Secondly stars cracking is just not unusual, most of the reports are unsubstantiated rumor promulgated by filthy rags, but even taken at face value there is no there there.

As for SB Singing future. I think it is safe. As I said before she will not be in permanent competition mode, she will be singing for her supper. Performing whether live or on wax can be very healing.

I think if BGT was anything like this:

That is what he does (or did),that was his act,he made silly faces,act silly and in general looked a complete prat.....and he was loved by the british public and was a very popular TV personality,...until a bloke was found dead in his pool during a wild party with heavy trauma to his anal region.
