6 months and counting

I finally fulfilled my dream of becoming a permanent resident of Jamaica and have been here now for 6 months and counting. The 6 months has been filled with ups and downs as life will hand you those no matter where you are, there is no perfect place on earth. I have changed my ticket to stay 3 times now, wasting a good deal of money. Starting with my next reach I will be able to come on a one way ticket and not buy my return until I am good and ready.


Jamaica has been kind to me. I have made some new friends and treasure among them some strong Jamaican women (not an easy club to break in to). If I could point to one discouraging thing it is the expats here. Good lord what a bunch. It is almost like each country picked it's worst citizen to send here. I have learned now to distance myself from that bunch in general as they bicker and back bite and gossip and cause confusion like no other I have seen. Most discouraging of all is they seem hell bent on changing the culture of the country to suit their needs and wishes , starting with messing with the way Jamaicans party. This noise abatement ordinance they are pushing is causing police to shut parties down left and right and spoil everyone's fun. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A PERMIT. Makes me sick. My own personal birthday party last year was shut down at 8:30 PM. I have attended several functions since that suffered the same fate.

I have to big up one party I attended though it is called Different Strokes, and if you ever get the chance GO to one. You will not regret it.

Anyway, going to be here a while longer before I check the US for a short while, and then back here again. Take Care.

Some places it is most nights of the week till 5:00AM......Plus the trash, traffic problems, social problems.

Best legislation to improve the life of Jamaican people in general in the last 10 years .. Noise abatement act !!!!!!! And the enforcement of it has been good!

Promoters complain that they are being stymied but then once you start asking them the questions about social responsibility their arguments crumble!
I am with you on this Tuffy.... too much damn noise... frightening my cows, curdling their milk and causing stampedes......stopping my plants from growing....

I am being serious.....People have to work next day, old people and children are being deprived of sleep.. this is one thing that i give props to the police on doing....when it is away from tourist areas it is really still bad... This co mixing is a lack of planning.. Recent a friend of mine was complaining he lived 200 m from where a dance was being held.. he phoned the police and it turns out thatthe dance was organised by a police man.. He asked me to phone mi bredrin who is a command police man and four steps up the hierarchy above the offending officer ... the next day a chastised police promoter came and apologised ! He had no licence to promote the dance.... as always is who you know in Jamaica that lets the Jamaican system works!

The other thing that promoters need these days... they have to prove the goat in the curry goat was derived from a legal source! Dance has been stopped because they serve stolen curry goat!!!! (one point a police friend told me they suspected they were serving curried dog!) Nosie from parties in resdential areas has to be controlled....

LOL! At one time or another, disya accusation has been levied at every Jamaican who's ever had a party in Jamaica...

Never believed it then (well, prolly when I was a child and had yet to recognise de sly artfulness of my people's vindiction)

Thanks for the well wishes and good to see so many old friends today. WOW you live you learn, had no idea so many Jamaicans felt that way about noise abatement, or are all yall just getting older? LOL.

Anyway I thought shutting all the major shows down slightly after mid night ON THE BEACH ROAD , on New Year's Eve was a bit uncalled for personally. That is a special party night to me, and the people dem did have permits. CHoooooo

On a personal level, we have a pretty frequent party at the hardware store at the bottom of my hill. When the party is thumping I can sleep like a baby, as soon as they turn the music OFF I wake up and can't go back to sleep. LOL
