SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland - A popular United States-based evangelist was up to press time last night still in police custody, more than 24 hours after he was arrested for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and fondling a 14-year-old in his room at a Negril hotel early Sunday morning.

Last night, an Observer source said charges should be laid against the high-profile minister by today.
&quot;He is expected to be charged between later tonight (last night) and tomorrow (today),&quot; said the police source.

The evangelist, who is said to have visited the island for a one-week crusade - hosted by Fellowship Church of God in Little London from June 7-14 - was nabbed by the police as he stepped out of a motor vehicle outside a jam-packed tent Sunday night, much to the shock of the hundreds of congregants awaiting his appearance.

The police alleged that the evangelist - <span style="font-weight: bold">who has made similar trips to the island over the past few years </span> - met the two minors during the one-week gospel crusade and invited them to accompany him on a trip to the parish of Clarendon on Saturday.

It is alleged that the evangelist, <span style="font-weight: bold">while being chauffeur-driven to the central parish</span>, <span style="font-style: italic">fondled the girls during the journey.</span>

The police claimed that upon returning to Westmoreland late Saturday night, the evangelist invited the two teenage girls to his hotel room in Negril where he had sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old and fondled the 14-year-old.

It was not immediately clear when or who reported the matter to the police, but the evangelist was arrested hours after he allegedly committed the offences.

Yesterday, Reverend S A Munroe of the Little London Fellowship Church of God <span style="font-weight: bold">who was busy seeking an attorney to assist in the release of the evangelist, was mum on the matter</span>.

Agreed that gullible people will fall for and support anyone they think can offer them words of comfort and tell them what they want to hear about &quot;god&quot;.

However,I find it incredible that when so-called good preachers or religious people go bad suddenly it`s not gods fault,he didnt chose them,they chose themselves,.....when anything goes bad everyone trips over themselves to deny &quot;god&quot; has anything to do with it,..and yet they give him credit for just about everything else....how convenient is that.

I agree with your sentiment completely, SueS. They will turn a blind eye to a &quot;preacher&quot; committing statutory rape but will mercilessly harass an &quot;unbeliever&quot; who merely expresses an inkling of doubt concerning the veracity of scripture.

Every single preacher is self declared, academic credentials aside. There is nothing that separates this pedophile from declaring an &quot;anointing&quot; and Billy Graham or someone else who is respected declaring an &quot;anointing.&quot; Does one see an anointing? Smell an anointing? Hear an anointing? Touch an anointing?

No. One &quot;feels&quot; an anointing and &quot;feeling&quot; is the most unreliable means by which people come to conclusions. This selecting of who is and who isn't &quot;anointed&quot; after the fact is a pretty disengenuous way for many Christians to separate themselves from embarrassment. They would be much better served if they accepted that one of their flock committed a severe trangression and move on from there. Just my two cents.

As long as you realize that every preacher is potentially a conman, or conversely, a saint, then we are in agreement. Afterall, if this pedophile hadn't been caught, I or anyone else, would have been hard pressed to claim that he is a potential felon. The special status people afford to religious leaders may be deserved in many cases but I think many are too quick to grant that status - even in one's own congregation.

A <span style="font-weight: bold">self-professed</span> healer from the United States of America, was taken into police custody on Sunday night on suspicion of carnal abuse. He has not yet been charged.

The accused is from Brooklyn, New York.

Reports are that the pastor came to the island last week at the invitation of a Westmoreland-based church.

It is alleged that he attended an outdoor crusade in the company of two teenagers, one 14 and the other 15. It is further alleged that the girls accompanied him to Clarendon and then he took them to a hotel in Negril.

The Pastor, it is said, made advances towards the 14-year-old who turned him down. It is alleged that he, however, had sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old and then gave her some money.

The police became aware of the matter and he was nabbed on Sunday night, minutes before he was about to take the pulpit.

His ministry is known worldwide and he is especially known for his <span style="font-weight: bold">'ability</span><span style="font-weight: bold">'</span> to heal others.
