That's because the US Supreme Court has set a very high standard for libel whereby one must prove &quot;malicious intent and a reckless disregard for the truth.&quot; These are not easy to prove. The <span style="font-style: italic">National Enquirer</span> is not the kind of paper you would normally associate with excellence in investigative reporting/journalism. It's an entertainment tabloid. It caters mostly to the gossip crowd. With few exceptions, the <span style="font-style: italic">National Enquirer</span> and the other tabloids usually prevail in lawsuits, not because their stories are generally accurate, but simply because the bar had not been met by those bringing action. The Court is also concerned with libels creating a &quot;chilling effect&quot; on freedom of the press, though this would hardly be the case with the NE.

It may seem that the NE's credibility is improving because of the John Edwards story, but it would be a mistake to think that. The editors at the NE know that they can push more salacious headlines and stories and sell more papers - which is what they are about, ultimately - because the public may think what they are saying is true.

Well I wouldn't say such things affect me personally, but I kinda feel that a little girl/boy should at least be allowed to grow up and make some choices other than be forced to accept the old girl or guy whose false teeth sits on the night stand when you go into the bed room to clean up. </div></div>

True... As the father of a daughter I would be outraged if an old man sniffed around her....if he touched ar when she was underage then he should be dealt with.. But as you know fr far too long the Dons were doing the same crap and it was ignored by our so called &quot;Pro-fits&quot;... I must admit till you brought this issue up I was unaware of it....
