Something's gotta give when such a high proportion of women in a race are left to bring up (jointly produced) offspring on their own for most part...

You also seem confused by the sentence about 'prison', many of these have family and 'brethrens' that can help in them meeting their commitments.

When will black men on continually complaining about being excluded by all means from the workplace, on recognising this problem, when will efforts me made to combat it - e.g. think self employment...Or even setting up networks that offer these single black mothers support...

I think there will be alot more respect given to black men when some concerted effort is made not just to TALK about the opressions, but to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. How long can one wait for the 'system' to change?

Well, taking you back to the beginning, I think that you missed MY point.

I asked for a 'debate', not sure you can call it a 'tyrade'.

I see the 'blame' has ALREADY been labelled at black women - in the manner that I have stated in my first post, whether we accept it is another issue, even if we do how will the situation change? let's see;

eg.1 NOT to be a single mother - you need a man around or perhaps someone will suggest that women pretent to be men as well (some inadvertently fall into that role already).

eg.2 We don't work or take jobs, then labelled as benefit dependents, or not have enough to provide for the child(ren) that they are left to take care of...

eg.3 Only have natural hair - well child see his/her mother's hair in natural condition, but not enough food to eat, and not having someone to call 'dad' like many of his/her friends, and the manifold benefits that can come with that...just part of the other thing to deal with.

Well, accept the blame, still need the other side (the black man) to see the part that he plays (or NOT as the case may be) in the situation...

Do black women need protection...yes we do, from the day to day single graft of just COPING (or &quot;being strong&quot; as some will have it)having to do everything themselves AND be the <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">saviour</span></span>(not ALL black women experience this, but we know the significant many of then do), the aim is to make this LESS likely.

i guess you have me up because i speak out against our people's self mutilation to adopt a white look; well it doesn't matter the gender; i oppose all forms of racial mutilation to try to look like someone else; whether it be skin bleaching or hair burning, male or female, so let's get that out of the way...hair not really relevant in this argument as my attacks on hair creaming &amp; skin bleaching are meant to combat the self-hate that was conditioned in us as a people;
but if you want to debate-- what is it that you want to debate??
whether it is black MEN or WOMEN more to blame for our degraded condition?
well i don't want to debate that as we are BOTH responsible for hating ourselves (hence the need to blame each other)... while loving &amp; idolizing those who created those conditions for us in the first place;

Nonetheless, that was not at the heart of what I was saying.

I do think this <span style="font-weight: bold">debate </span>has been useful, I certainly learnt alot from it, but I also <span style="font-weight: bold">understand</span> you not wanting to participate further - I appreciate that this is a difficult topic to deal with.

personally i think blackmen have to step up to the plate big time; most of the decay of our community can be traced to the absence of the men, whatever the various causes of that...
did you get that? i said MOST of the blame is on the black men...
&amp; i knew it was me you are referring to with the hair thing which really seems to tick you off although i consider totally irrelevant to this topic; i am what i am; i vehemently disagree with the attitude our people exhibit by refusing to embrace their natural god-given features &amp; hair, but that is a different topic &amp; by no means an issue of me 'blaming black women' for the socio-economic conditions of the race;
i'm the only one i can remember on any forum board who suggested god is a black woman or that men are not superior to women...most religious women on another forum actually opposed me on this and said men are the leaders &amp; some even said men are superior to them, so you got the wrong guy;

so since you are not interested, by your own admission, in reasoning on how the race can be uplifted, i pray you are satisfied that i placed most of the blame on black men...
if that is what you hoped to accomplish...

What happens of course is the reverse: white men offer themselves as saviors of African women.

And it matters not whether we’re talking about sex trafficking, or female genital mutilation, or child brides, or honour killings, or the absence of property rights, or the absence of inheritance rights, or the absence of laws against rape and sexual violence, or the need to guarantee economic autonomy, or the dismal limits of political representation … in each and every case, and countless more, the world cries out for a women’s agency to intervene.

I of course agree that all of these things are horrific tragedies, and that oppression of women, and violence against women, is one of the most terrifying violations of individual freedom that we see in the world today.

But what would work pragmatically to better the situation? White men who run aid agencies or offer themselves as advocates for African women have to think through some hard questions.

(1) Is a direct outside intervention to save African women likely to be effective?

Doesn’t an effective intervention require the cooperation of African men? How likely is that to be forthcoming if African men are marginalized and ignored as the outsiders intervene in sensitive gender relations? Especially if African men are stigmatized through over-generalization as war criminals and rapists (or the slightly more tame stereotype as wife-beaters who spend all the household money on alcohol?)

(2) How credible are white men calling for gender equality in Africa when we don’t have it at home?

Don't think that I ever said that black men were not to blame...i'm not THAT liberal!

You may chalk my response up to whatever you are comfortable with...

Something's gotta give when such a high proportion of women in a race are left to bring up (jointly produced) offspring on their own for most part...

You also seem confused by the sentence about 'prison', many of these have family and 'brethrens' that can help in them meeting their commitments.

When will black men on continually complaining about being excluded by all means from the workplace, on recognising this problem, when will efforts me made to combat it - e.g. think self employment...Or even setting up networks that offer these single black mothers support...

I think there will be alot more respect given to black men when some concerted effort is made not just to TALK about the opressions, but to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. How long can one wait for the 'system' to change?
