Facebook posting not helpful to the PNP – Franklyn
Sunday, 21 June 2009
Attorney at law and former Junior Minister in the last People's National Party (PNP) Government Delano Franklyn has weighed in on the furore created by the internet postings by the party's General Secretary Peter Bunting.
Mr. Bunting caused a stir Wednesday when he posted on his Facebook profile the Albert Einstein quotation: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results."
Many have said Mr. Bunting's postings were targeted at PNP Leader Portia Simpson Miller and were disrespectful.
The PNP General Secretary defended the comment and denied they were aimed at the PNP President.
However, according to Mr. Franklyn, who was speaking on RJR's weekly news review programme "That's a Rap" on Sunday, said Mr. Bunting's posting was not helpful given the circumstances.
"The General Secretary of a party, and in this case the People's National Party, where you are one of the principal leaders, you ought to be extremely sensitive to the period in which you're operating, very sensitive to interpretations that might be given to things which you have done.
"I think it the posting is very unfortunate because it has prompted comments which have now forced (Mr. Bunting) to be on the back foot and to now disassociate himself from it," said PNP State Minister Delano Franklyn.
