Extortion caused Christian's death?
She sold the word of God to make a living and it is claimed that it is the profit from this that caused her death.
The St James police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 56-year-old Christian woman from Mount Carey in the parish.
The bullet-riddled body of Violet Anderson of Top Hill, Mount Carey, was found at her home about 15 hours after explosions were heard coming from her house.
Anderson, a well-known saleswoman of Christian literature, lived by herself, and if the claims of residents are true, then extortionists are responsible for her death.
According to the police, residents heard explosion about 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
lifeless body
However, the police were not alerted to Anderson's death until about 15 hours later, when her lifeless body was found by a friend who had turned up to visit her.
Investigators say Anderson was found on her bed which was soaked in blood. Her house was also ransacked.
Residents describe Anderson as a "strong" Christian who made her living by selling Christian literature.
Residents are pointing fingers at so-called thugs from the community, who are alleged to have visited Anderson demanding money on a previous occassion.
"Yu si red eye and bad mind, is a wicked ting ... Di woman sell her likkle book dem fe survive, she nuh deserve da death deh ... A jus tru money eno," one resident who requested anonymity said.
"A nuttin but dem think di woman have a bag money jus tru she nuh live wid nobody and she nuh walk and beg ... A regular wi see dem go link har fi money. Plus, a tings weh deh talk," another resident added.
Head of the Anchovy police, Corporal Peter Salkey, confirmed that robbery is the theorised motive for the murder.
He said, however, further investigations were needed in order to justify the claims of the residents
