Is one beating he won't forget, but it punishment was cruel and did not correspond to the infraction.

It might actually backfire fi granny. The yute will think his granny unreasonable (as the neighbours and police confirm) and will disobey her more in the future. He'll know she'll hesitate before she issue out lick again.

How can it backfire or even straighten him out asi hinted , since, as u point out ,she was already on him case so to speak ,n dat neva mek him fear har reaction ...so I guess it comes bak to mi ? re wat to do to stop any further slide .. Just my two cents, but I think that making a child fear you isn't a way to get a child to behave.

But if the child loves you then he will not do things that might make you not love him.

The scourge of crime, especially involving young people, is the focus of a regional meeting which started in St Kitts Monday.

Host Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, at whose request the meeting is being held, called for steps to re-integrate disaffected young people into main stream society.

He cited some troubling statistics from a study on Caribbean youth carried out by the Pan American Health Organisation.

Quoting from the study he said, “40% use alcohol, 30% of 13-15 year-olds have used drugs, 50% boys and 25% of girls are sexually active, and 25% of youths have contemplated suicide at some stage.”

The Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Patrick Manning, who gave the main address, also highlighted the gravity of the problem of youth crime confronting the region.

He said though, that it was not unique to the Caribbean.
