It was not perfect but they did build a system.. actually if you examine it it was built by Jamaicans...

I love reading statistic.. as a non black man who grew up in poverty in Jamaica.. How does reading statistics that demonstrate that this was not the case make me fee ???? Does that simple fact invalidate the entire premis of the article ????

Andrews Memorial Hospital (I take it that's what you mean) was built by the British? I didn't know that.

Jamaica has a capitalist economic system.
Integral to capitalism is the amassing of wealth by individuals which in all countries results in haves and have nots.
The greed based nature of capitalism is exacerbated by racism and the poverty of Third World/underdeveloped, resource poor countries.

There is nothing new here and the answers to the problems of poverty are obvious.

Cuba has a much lower per capita income level than does Jamaica yet it is in the first tier of nations with high human development..

The difference between Jamaica and Cuba that is the fact that Cuba has a socialist economy .


Jamaicans have rejected socialism and since capitalism does not work in poor Third World countries and is not reformable you'd do best by emigrating if you're poor and prefer living in a capitalist economy.

Join the 70,000 who leave Jamaica yearly for the much richer United States where being poor is somewhat easier and your chance for a better life is more possible.
