wE nowevery bodi is against the queen as head of state.. Because prince philip is connected to a minor german principality and queen elizabeth i was responsible for Jesus of Lebeck.... And any one who voices the jamaican paradigm that there is no need to change the queen is a coconut.. yet no one seems to offer an altenative head of state.... ? I see no value only costs at changing the queen. As far as I know we pay nothing for her... We pay for the GG who is the effective head of state,,, and he is approved by both houses of parliment.... But then again, that was only my view, and i know it don't count

I have no problem with president but it would be more poltical than it is currently. A non poltical head of state is a nesscity with more power than it currently has.... Japan can afford playing with its head of state role... we waste enough money....it aint broke... why spend to fix it ?????

there may be room for a discussion of whether the institution fits the culture. it's not always a matter of financial costs. if the queen has done no harm to jamaica, is that enough reason to have her as the head of state?

the japanese apparently value hirohito for the stability his office represents in the midst of all the economic uncertainty. the value ascribed to that office is cultural. elizabeth i think represents that for the folks in GB, don't know that she necessarily does that for the ex-colonies - including Canada. outside the british isles the institution is a bit of a relic, imo.

i'm not a republican, per se, but i do sometimes wonder that if jamaica had its own leader that spoke to its values in the way elizabeth does for GB and hirohito does for japan the people of jamaica might respond in more positive ways. if u know what i mean.

I'm more republican (small 'r'), but at the same time, retain the Privy Council as Jamaica's final court of appeals. Unicameral legislature; a ceremonial Head of State; a fixed election date; public financing of elections; residency requirement for MPs; a restructured judiciary.

An elected head of state system works best under separation of powers.

The Privy Council is not any more a Foreign Institution than the CCJ would be.
The money that was wasted in the CCJ dalliances could have be spent fixing our Justice System ensuring that less not more cases reaches either the Privy Council or an eventual final Court of the peoples determination.
